Measurement is free. Repeating it costs money.
The scan that tells you whether AI crawlers can read your site costs nothing and needs no account. What you pay for is a weekly recheck, an evidence report when it detects a change, and — at the top tier — observations from your own server logs alongside a probe.
The scan — free, no account
12 AI crawler user-agents sent against a browser baseline seconds apart, plus robots.txt read token by token, plus a raw-HTML word count with JavaScript off — which is all GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot ever receive. About 60 seconds. No signup and no card.
This is not a trial of the paid product. It is the paid product's measurement, run once, by you. Run it →
Log monitoring you own — free, customer-hosted
Connect a Vercel log drain and we filter the AI-crawler requests out of your traffic, verify vendor networks where published IP ranges exist, strip visitor-level fields, and write the operational event into a PostHog project you control. The data lands in your account, not ours.
It contributes a minimized domain-level record to our benchmark under versioned Data Contribution Terms. Original log batches, exact paths, client IPs, query strings, headers and cookies are never sold. Set it up →
Subscriptions
One domain each, month to month, cancel any time from the billing link in every report. No login, no seat licenses, no dashboard to check — the report comes to you.
Monitor — $49/month
GET TOLD WHEN A CRAWLER STOPS GETTING IN
Every week we scan your homepage from a datacenter address and compare it to the last one. You get an alert only when a crawler that was reachable becomes blocked on a clean baseline; otherwise a short weekly digest that takes ten seconds to read. First run within 24 hours of checkout.
- 12 crawler user-agents plus a browser baseline, weekly
- robots.txt diffed token by token between runs
- Raw-HTML word count tracked over time
- Regression alert by email, with the evidence attached
What it cannot do: prove that a vendor's real crawler was blocked. A synthetic probe is a lead. See Verified.
Verified — $149/month
STOP GUESSING. READ WHAT ACTUALLY FETCHED YOUR SITE.
Everything in Monitor, plus your own server's records. One Vercel drain, about three minutes to connect; credentials arrive in your first report. IPs and user-agents are never retained, and paid log data never enters our public benchmark.
Before subscribing: this integration requires Vercel Drains on Pro or Enterprise, or Cloudflare HTTP Logpush on Enterprise, and permission to configure it. Provider usage charges may apply. Cloudflare Free, Pro and Business do not include this HTTP Logpush path; other hosts are not supported here yet. Check compatibility or email alex+monitor@midnightdev.dev before paying.
- Which AI crawlers fetched you, and which pages they took
- How many arrived from the vendor's published IP ranges versus impostors wearing the user-agent
- Which crawler requests returned 4xx/5xx or took over a second
- Evidence labelled verified (your logs) or simulated (our probes) — never blended
Monitor and Verified are separate subscriptions, not an upgrade path — if you already subscribe to Monitor, email us to move rather than starting a second one. How the hookup works.
Start a subscription
One domain per subscription. Stripe hosts the payment page; nothing is charged here.
Already on Monitor and want to move up? Email alex+monitor@midnightdev.dev rather than buying Verified here — these are two separate subscriptions, not an upgrade path, and starting the second would bill you for both.
Not sure yet? The free scan needs no card and tells you whether you have a problem worth paying to watch.
Verified AI Search Audit — one-time, from $2,500
A human engagement, not a subscription: ten commercially important URLs probed the way machines actually fetch them, verification against your server or CDN logs where available, a Search Console join showing which valuable pages are affected, repeated answer-engine sampling reported with run counts rather than one-run claims, root-cause classification across seven stages, paste-ready fixes for your developer, and one post-fix re-verification within 30 days.
Single domain from $2,500. Multi-domain and portfolio engagements from $10,000, scoped to the number of properties and whether server logs are available. Most sites never need this — run the free scan first.
What none of this buys you
Referral traffic from AI assistants is still small for most sites, and we are not going to pretend a subscription changes that. What is measurable is whether you are reachable and readable at all. Being blank guarantees the answer is no; being readable makes it possible. Anyone selling you the second half of that sentence as a traffic promise is guessing.
We also do not sell rankings, schema packages, or "AI optimization" content. The method is open source, so you can run the measurement yourself and never pay us anything.
Questions
Is the scan really free?
Yes. No account, no card, no trial that expires. It is the same measurement the paid tiers repeat on a schedule. There is a per-IP rate limit so one visitor cannot saturate the probe — 5 fresh scans per 10 minutes, and 3 fresh re-checks of the same domain per hour — but nothing behind it costs money.
What is the difference between Monitor and Verified?
Monitor re-runs our synthetic scan weekly and emails you when a crawler that was reachable becomes blocked. Verified adds your own server logs: which AI crawlers actually fetched your site, how many came from the vendor's published IP ranges rather than an impostor, and which requests failed or ran slow. Monitor tells you what a probe sees. Verified tells you what happened.
Do I need Verified?
Only if you need proof rather than a lead. A synthetic probe from a datacenter address can be challenged where the real crawler, arriving from its published IP range, sails through — so a 403 to our probe is a strong signal and not evidence. If you are going to act on that finding, or report it to someone who will push back, the logs settle it.
Can I cancel?
Any time, from the billing link in every report. There is no login to cancel through and no minimum term.
Is there an annual discount or a multi-domain plan?
Not yet. Each subscription covers one domain at the monthly price, and Monitor and Verified are separate subscriptions rather than an upgrade path — if you are on Monitor and want Verified, email us instead of buying the second one. Portfolio work is quoted as an engagement rather than a subscription.
